Scratch Block-Based Coding
$249.00

Starts June 10th, Tues/Thurs 3-5pm for 6 weeks

In this exciting introduction to coding, students in grades 3-5 will learn how to create their own interactive games using Scratch's colorful block-based programming environment. Inspired by Max Wainewright's celebrated game design curriculum, young coders will progress from simple animations to fully functional games with scoring systems and special effects.

No prior coding experience needed - just bring your imagination! Students will learn what makes games engaging, how to control characters with keyboard inputs, create animations, and even implement scoring systems. By the end of six weeks, participants will have designed, tested, and coded multiple working games they can play, share, and continue developing at home.

Beyond technical skills, students will develop valuable computational thinking abilities with a combination of screen-free coding activities and focused coding time on their computers. They will grow their creative problem-solving skills, and gain the perseverance and confidence that comes from building something from “scratch”. Join us to transform from game player to game creator while having tons of fun along the way! View more information about the course here.

Advanced CodeMonkey - Game Creation & Math
$199.00

Starts July 23rd Wed/Thurs 3-5pm for 4 weeks

This exciting course combines the award-winning CodeMonkey platform with guided instruction, group projects, logic worksheets, and screen-free programming activities that will help your child advance their coding, problem-solving, and critical-thinking.

Advance your child's coding skills with CodeMonkey's blend of computer science, math and game creation features! The course provides an entry into text-based coding, fostering problem-solving skills through creative play. We’ll start with a slow introduction to text-based coding by doing in-class demos, group work, and focused instruction on one programming concept at a time.

We’ll use Dodo Does Math which offers highly engaging challenges and provides students a memorable way to practice math as they code in an intuitive JavaScript-like language. The rest of the class we’ll be playing with Coding Adventure which provides a game-based environment where students learn to code as they help a monkey catch bananas.

We provide a supportive environment where kids will be encouraged to ask questions and process emotions such as frustration, surprise, and confusion in a healthy way. Paired with CodeMonkey’s fun and educational game-based environment, kids will become master problem-solvers through creative play. View all details about the courses here.

Drawing and Visualizing Data with Canva
$150.00

Fall 2025 - 5 Weekend 1hr Classes, Dates TBD

This class sparks kids creative side as they learn how stories can be visualized as graphs, bar charts, and more using the popular design tool Canva! Engaging games and stories introduced during the class will make visualizing data concepts exciting and meaningful. This course is a continuation of the data concepts and visualizations introduced in the Tali Explorers course.

“Our ability to read, understand, create, and communicate data is defined as data literacy. The earlier a child obtains these essential skills, the less likely they are to be intimidated by data. Simply put, teaching data literacy skills is key to setting up children for success in the future” (source).

Data literacy is an important topic in today’s data-driven world and is something that can start being taught at a very young age. These lessons will promote creativity and critical-thinking as students present to the class how their solutions help solve data challenges. Learn more about Data Visualization in Canva here.

Perfect for curious learners

“Tali Builders” are 3rd-5th graders who are ready to be introduced to basic computer science concepts, group and independent projects, and more technical activities. They will generally be at a beginner chapter-book reading level or above.

What they’ll learn

In these courses, kids will discover how to develop and create their own games as they learn how computers and coding are all around them! This project-based experience will enhance interdisciplinary abilities such as critical thinking, perseverance, pattern recognition, abstraction, algorithms, creativity, and communication.

Kids will be excited about being able to bring their ideas to life with these exciting and popular coding games. By the end of a 6-week course, students will have made a tangible game or program that they can proudly present to their parents and friends!
